At present more than 60% of the households in Sri Lanka use firewood for cooking. Use of firewood for cooking is higher in rural areas (77%) and in estate sector (86%) in Sri Lanka.
A project has been initiated for the promotion of alternative energy for cooking within rural communities in Sri Lanka. Apart from creating smoke free household environment, the project will help to reduce the threats that having on forest cover.
